Wool is a natural fiber that will scorch with prolonged exposure to a hot iron, this includes an auto-lift iron in the raised position. Reduce the heat or use a silicone iron rest when leaving a hot iron in one place for an extended period of time. Felt mats are porous, allowing steam and heat to pass through, so always place mats on a suitable heat and moisture resistant surface during use.
